The meal

The centrepiece of Reading Town Meal will be a delicious hot meal made from local fruit and vegetables, served free to the first 1,000 lucky diners.

The meal is vegetarian, and the main course is vegan. The fruit compote is also vegan, but the crumble topping is not.

At previous Town Meals, Reading has tucked in to tasty allotment tagine, allotment curry, veggie stroganoff, allotment ragout and Reading hot pot, served with fresh salad, and followed by apple tart, fruit crumble or fruit compote, cooked and served by Reading College catering students using home grown fruit and vegetables donated by growers across Reading.

The final menu for 2021 will depend on the produce that is donated, but the proposal is

The 2021 menu

  • Reading Ragout. Local grown salad with focaccia bread.
  • Fruit compote. Granola crumble topping

The main course will be served from 12:30pm. Please note that the food will be served until it runs out, which is likely to be before 2pm.
