The meal

The centrepiece of Reading Town Meal will be a delicious hot meal made from local fruit and vegetables, served free to the first 1,000 lucky diners.

The meal is vegetarian, and where possible there are vegan options.

At previous Town Meals, Reading has tucked in to tasty allotment curry, veggie stroganoff and allotment ragout, served with fresh salad, and followed by apple tart or fruit crumble cooked and served by Reading College catering students using home grown fruit and vegetables donated by growers across Reading.

The 2017 menu

  • Allotment Tajine with Salad
  • The Reading Town Crumble

Neil Bardo, lecturer at Reading College, said "Fruit crumble is a classic favourite dish and we're getting ready to serve a very special one to Reading's crumble connoisseurs on 30th September! There will be a lot of hard work for the team to cook and serve a meal on such a big scale, but this is a wonderful opportunity to work with fresh ingredients straight from Reading's soil and to be part of this unique community event."
